The Snub, Glen Clova, Cairngorms
The Snub path from Loch Brandy up the summit was a steep undefined trod up the ridge line, badly eroded and multi braided with lots of very loose material. The top of the path where the final push to the summit begins was very wet with lots of boggy sections where walkers where starting to create new trods as they avoided the worst areas.
The project required nearly 400m of full build path, mainly of stone pitching but with aggregate sections where the gradient would allow, on top of this the final push to the summit where the path gradient falls off was to be secured against further erosion by the use of drainage features and light touch techniques.
The vast majority of stone came from a disused dyke which we bagged and had flown in. This re-cycling of materials meant we didn't have to go to a quarry and import materials in, but before a dyke can be used permissions have to be sought from all the relevant parties and it has to be ascertained that it is not a scheduled monument or of any historical importance.
