Cairn Liath phase 3.
The final year of this 3 year project for the main build on this mountain sees us pushing up towards the summit to finish off.
As always the first job is to carry on dismantling the dyke and bagging it up to fly to the work site, stone started to get a bit scarce and stuff we had previously discarded need to be reassessed to see if it could be used.
The base of the wall that was left was levelled off and the edges built up, this then becomes the tray for when the scree material is lifted off the mountain at the same time as the stone goes up, once down it will be dropped into the wall tray and will form the base of the new path,...... 'Recyc the Dyke' as we called it!

Completed path.
Towards the top third of the path the gradient steepens and so the path was zig-zagged up through here, lots of revetment and banking was required, loose material was piled up to create blocking and spare material was raked back off the vegetation to allow it to recover and so bind in the loose soils and prevent further erosion and loss of materials and habitat.
One of the nicest things about a contract over a number of years is that you get to see how the path has settled in and watch the regeneration of the landscape take place.
On Cairn Liath we have been amazed how quickly this has happened.
If you compare these following photos to those in year 1 and 2 it is very evident that the work we do really helps to repair our hills and mountains.
