Glentrool bridge refurbishment.
The Refurbishment of the old Glentrool style bridge near the old pack horse stables at Strath Nethy on the edge of the Cairngorms.
|
This was the first project that CWC undertook for COAT. The old bridge was in very poor condition, the uprights and supports were in a completely rotten and dangerous state, and as the only place to cross the River Nethy for the numerous walkers headed up Bynack More or over to the Lairig an Laoigh and the Fords of Avon, it badly needed refurbishing.
The existing abutments and steel girders were reused, all of the old wood was removed and replaced with European Larch heartwood, a wood which is very resistant to rot, and a new method of strengthening and securing the uprights was devised. |
