Coire na Ciste, Cairngorms.
This project in the early spring of 2014 was to build a path using stone pitching techniques from the lower reaches of the hill above the car park, up to the area where the Cairngorms Outdoor Access Trust had been running a training site for the previous few years.
The existing trod on the lower sections was through an area of deep peat with very poor drainage, before it emerges onto the more open and exposed upper areas leading to the start of the training site.
The lower sections where particularly suffering from erosion due to an extra highly visible desire line that had been created by walkers following the most direct line back down to the car park. This needed to be removed and the area landscaped in in order for the new path to succeed. This was done by filling in the old scar with peat and vegetation we had saved from lower down and air lifting it to the top of the old path line, so removing the visual line which walkers had been following. With this in place and the top section realigned to guide people down the correct way, it won't be long till the damaged area completely recovers.
